Quintana Roo, Mexico — During her program “La Voz del Pueblo,” Governor Mara Lezama alerted about the weather conditions that have been affecting Quintana Roo, stemming from cold front number 30, associated with an arctic air mass.

“We are experiencing an arctic air mass associated with cold front number 30, and this continues to affect our state with low temperatures and strong winds, mainly in the coastal zone,” she explained.

The governor detailed that the phenomenon has caused wind gusts of between 40 and 60 kilometers per hour on the coasts of Quintana Roo, in addition to a gradual drop in temperature.

“It is expected that the temperature will continue to drop over the weekend and that we will have some isolated rains, so it is important to stay informed through the official channels of Civil Protection,” she commented.

Due to forecasts for the coming days, the governor announced that the port of Cozumel remains closed for smaller vessels, while ferry operations will continue active, a situation that could change as weather conditions evolve.

In that sense, Mara Lezama indicated that surveillance is maintained in port activities, particularly in the crossing between Playa del Carmen and the island of Cozumel.

“If for any circumstance the ports are closed, I ask you please not to go out to sea. If there is a red flag, respect the sea and listen to the lifeguards; all we want is to take care of you,” she said.

More Cold Fronts on the Way

Mara Lezama explained that, in addition to cold front number 30, other systems are expected in the coming days, so the recommendation is to stay prepared and informed.

“Right now we are with cold front 30. Number 31 will not affect Quintana Roo, only the north of the country, but from January 31 to February 1, cold front number 32 will enter, which will also affect us,” she stated.

She insisted that, although the cold in the state may not be extreme as in other regions, it is necessary not to let our guard down and take precautions. Therefore, she reiterated the call to follow only official information, respect the instructions of Civil Protection, and call 911 in case of any emergency.

“Quintana Roo cares for the people of Quintana Roo and also for those who visit us. Bundle up, follow the instructions, and let’s not lower our guard,” she commented.

Flight Disruptions Due to Winter Storms in Other Countries

The governor also reported delays and cancellations of flights resulting from winter storms in the United States and Canada, which has impacted some air operations to and from Quintana Roo.

“We are in constant communication with airports, airlines, and the Secretary of Tourism. We have not had formal requests for assistance, but we are ready to provide any necessary support,” she affirmed.

She shared that cities such as New York, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Toronto, and Montreal, among others, have recorded impacts, which caused delays and rescheduling of flights in recent days.
