Quintana Roo’s 2026 Tourism Starts Strong at 88.3%

Cancún, QRoo, January 5, 2026. The Mexican Caribbean closed 2025 and began the new year with a hotel occupancy rate of 88.3 percent, equivalent to nearly 600,000 visitors of various nationalities, according to the State Secretariat of Tourism (Sedetur).

According to its weekly report from December 27, 2025, to January 2, 2026, during that period, 2,359 flights arrived at the state’s four international airports, of which 1,681 were foreign and 678 were domestic.

In the same period, Sedetur highlights that Isla Mujeres had the best occupancy at 95.4 percent, followed by Cozumel (92.8), third was the surprising Puerto Morelos (89.5), relegating the emerging Costa Mujeres to fourth place (88.8), fifth to the Riviera Maya (88.7), followed by Cancún (87.2) and Tulum (83.5).

Regarding the composition of tourism by origin, between January and October 2025, the United States market led with 37.72 percent of visitors, followed very closely by the Mexican market (36.3), Canada (10.0), the United Kingdom (2.4), and Argentina (1.7), which complete the top five source countries.

In the cruise sector, the report between Saturday, December 27, 2025, and January 2 of this year indicates that there were 37 dockings in Cozumel and 15 in Mahahual, for a monthly cumulative total of 231 transatlantic arrivals.
