Quintana Roo Boosts Port Infrastructure with 3% Revenue Increase

Apiqroo Director General Vagner Elbiorn Vega discussing port infrastructure improvements in Quintana Roo

Cancún, Quintana Roo. – During 2025, the state of Quintana Roo experienced significant advances in its port infrastructure, driven by the Integral Port Administration of the State (Apiqroo). Vagner Elbiorn Vega, the director general of the organization, reported that the year concluded with revenue 3% higher than in 2024, in addition to important improvements in facilities.

Among the highlighted works is the renovation of the fishermen’s pier in Mahahual, a space that was unused and was rehabilitated, benefiting the local fishing community. Similarly, the fishermen’s pier in Puerto Juárez, which had not received investment in almost 30 years, was completely renovated, including the reconstruction of the wooden piers of the cooperatives, which was received with gratitude by users.

Additionally, technological improvements were implemented in Cozumel with the installation of new-generation cameras that use artificial intelligence for facial and license plate recognition. These cameras, operated in collaboration with the C-5, integrate into the state security system, and their installation is planned to be replicated in Isla Mujeres. Apiqroo also seeks to expand collaboration agreements with the C-5 to enhance security infrastructure.

In financial terms, Apiqroo closed 2025 with approximate revenue of 310 million pesos, 3% more than the previous year. The goal for 2026 is projected at a minimum increase of 5% compared to the 2025 results. Elbiorn Vega attributed these achievements to the commitment and work of his team in the different ports of the state, highlighting the importance of physical and personal attention toward collaborators and users.

Future plans include the modernization of existing infrastructures and possible growth of up to 20% in some piers, especially in the cooperatives of Puerto Juárez, with the objective of facilitating the arrival of more tour operators and improving the operation of the fishing cooperatives.
