Cancún, Quintana Roo — Puerto Morelos will host a key stage of the Rally Maya Mexico 2026, one of the country’s most important historic car rallies, officials announced.

The 12th edition of the event will run from February 27 to March 7, with the Mexican Caribbean serving as the venue for the final stages. Puerto Morelos will feature in the fifth stage, covering the Cancún–Puerto Morelos–Cancún route through Leona Vicario and the Ruta de los Cenotes, ending at Parque Fundadores.

Raúl Guadarrama García, the municipal Secretary of Sustainable Tourism, representing Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, highlighted the rally’s benefits at a press conference held at Porsche Mexico’s agency. “This is a major event for our town because it boosts hotel occupancy, stimulates the economy, and gives us international exposure as part of this ‘Museum on Wheels’ that combines history, culture, and tourism,” he said.

Over 90 Crews and 1,426 Kilometers

The Rally Maya Mexico, also known as the “Museum on Wheels,” will bring together about 90 crews from Mexico, Europe, Central America, and South America. Participants will drive classic cars, noted for their historical value and pristine condition, across various locations in southeastern Mexico.

Rodrigo Villanueva, president of Rally Maya Mexico, explained that this year’s route spans 1,426 kilometers over five stages, starting in Palenque, Chiapas, on February 27. The Puerto Morelos stage on March 6 will cover 183 kilometers, allowing spectators to view the vehicles up close along the coast. The competition concludes in Cancún with a closing dinner and awards ceremony, where the coveted “Corazón Maya” trophy will be presented, followed by a traditional golf tournament.

Social Commitment Through Foundations

Beyond its sporting significance, the rally maintains a strong social commitment through foundations like Alejo Peralta, Oasis, and Telmex-Telcel. These organizations support people with disabilities, children with diabetes, and local community students. Sponsors include Frank Muller, which will sell 60 watches to raise funds for health-focused foundations, such as Fundación Sonrisas de Chiapas for cleft lip and palate surgeries.

Puerto Morelos’ involvement reinforces its position as a strategic tourist destination in the Mexican Caribbean, promoting international visibility and integrating sport, culture, and economic development for the community’s benefit. The press conference also featured Erick Solis from Porsche Mexico, Augusto Brogno, the rally’s operational director, founder Benjamín de la Peña Mora, partner Alan del Blanco Puello, Infratur representative Ricardo Archundia, and Benito Juárez tourism secretary Juan Pablo de Zulueta.
