Puerto Morelos Launches Community Policing Initiative to Strengthen Security

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Secretariat of Public Security held a community policing event in the Leona Vicario district on Tuesday, aiming to strengthen trust between residents and law enforcement agencies.

The initiative, part of Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz’s strategy to improve government-citizen relations, brought together multiple departments to provide information and preventive services directly to the community.

“We want citizens to know they have close, humane institutions committed to their well-being. Security is strengthened when there is trust, dialogue, and joint work between government and society,” a municipal official said.

The event was led by Municipal Public Security Secretary Manuel Alejandro Nava García, who emphasized that community outreach is a key tool for building safer neighborhoods.

Participating agencies included the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate, the Internal Affairs Directorate, and the Specialized Group for Attention to Domestic and Gender Violence (Geavig).

Traffic officers promoted road safety and accident prevention through awareness campaigns on seatbelt use and the dangers of drunk driving.

Internal Affairs set up a citizen service module to inform residents about how to file complaints or reports regarding police conduct, aiming to enhance transparency and accountability.

Geavig staff provided guidance on the “Purple Strategy,” a program focused on preventing and addressing violence against women and girls, as well as measures to prevent harassment in public spaces.
