PUERTO MORELOS, Quintana Roo — The government of Puerto Morelos is conducting an operation to remove abandoned vehicles from public roads. The initiative aims to address problems related to public safety, the reproduction of harmful fauna, and potential infection hotspots.
This action is supported by local regulations, which grant authorities the power to remove all types of belongings, structures, and even automobiles, storage containers, and motorcycles from public spaces. The campaign is being carried out permanently by local authorities, though it is currently being implemented with greater intensity in the delegation of Leona Vicario.
Personnel from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security are conducting patrols through the neighborhoods of the delegation to detect vehicles on public roads. Those showing signs of abandonment are marked with a warning notice for removal. If the vehicles are not moved within the timeframe specified by authorities, they are towed to the vehicle impound lot. The regulations also prohibit repairing or painting cars on public roads.
Recommendations from the Puerto Morelos Government
To avoid surprises and the loss of property, the government of Puerto Morelos recommends that residents remove units that do not circulate regularly from the streets and adhere to the following guidelines:
- Do not use the streets for repair work or painting.
- Do not park vehicles in prohibited areas.
- Do not leave cars or cargo containers on public roads.
- If your car is not abandoned, you need not do anything.
This measure seeks to keep the streets clean and clear of debris, thereby freeing up roadways so that people have space to circulate peacefully.
