Progreso to Open Historic Muelle de Arcos for Sunset Walk Marking 85 Years

Progreso, Yucatan — Progreso is preparing for a special afternoon as it marks the 85th anniversary of the Muelle de Arcos, with a public walk along the landmark pier scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26. The route will offer views of the sea and the sunset from one of the most recognizable spots on Yucatan’s coast.

The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required because space is limited. It is being organized by ASIPONA Progreso, the National Port System Administration.

Timing and recommendations

Participants should arrive between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. for access. The walk will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m., unfolding through the late afternoon and allowing visitors to take in the shifting light over the water.

Organizers recommend light clothing and comfortable shoes, along with sun protection and enough water to stay hydrated.

What visitors can and cannot bring

Attendees may bring cellphones and cameras to take photographs during the walk.

However, several items are restricted. Drones, skates, skateboards, scooters and bicycles will not be allowed on the pier.

Visitors should review these rules before setting out, particularly given the large number of people expected to attend.

How to register

Registration must be completed in advance on the Puertos Yucatan platform. While the event is free, entry depends on available space.

Sign-ups will remain open through Sept. 23, with a limit of 630 registrations per day and a total capacity of 6,300 people. After registering, each participant must keep their access pass with its QR code, which will have to be shown when entering the Muelle de Arcos.

The 85th anniversary celebration offers an unusual chance to walk along the historic structure at sunset, so those hoping to take part should complete their registration within the established window and keep the access restrictions in mind.
