Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo

An upward adjustment in the prices of basic products such as LP gas, diesel, and water has begun on Isla Mujeres. Consumers and vendors do not rule out an increase in the price of tortillas.

They stated that the gas station stopped displaying its updated price list to the public, a practice it had complied with until last year.

The refill of a 20-kilo cylinder, which should cost 416.40 pesos, is now charged at 420 pesos, representing a 0.98% increase compared to the official weekly rate set by authorities of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE).

The CRE established for the period from January 4 to 10, 2026, a price of 20.82 pesos per kilo and 11.24 pesos per liter for stationary gas; however, the company Zeta Gas Sureste “rounds up” the cost to 420 pesos for the 20-kilo tank and 630 pesos for the 30-kilo one, confirmed company personnel.

The user Sócrates Vázquez pointed out that for three months the company has stopped respecting the suggested price for Isla Mujeres, removed its informational sign without prior notice, and began raising its rates.

Furthermore, it suspended the program for replacing up to 20 expired cylinders per month, confirmed Civil Protection elements. More than two dozen deposits have accumulated since October and no others are being accepted, an employee indicated.

Diesel also maintains an upward trend. At one station it went from 28 pesos per liter to an increase of 50 centavos, equivalent to 1.78%. Magna gasoline is sold between 26.29 pesos, at the lowest point, and 26.50 pesos, the highest, a margin similar to that at the end of the year, although possible increases are anticipated.

According to the Federal Consumer Protection Agency’s “Who’s Who in Prices” program, the highest cost of regular gasoline in the Southeast region was 24.89 pesos per liter in Cancún, from December 22 to 28, while the lowest occurred in Mérida, at 23.84 pesos. In contrast, on Isla Mujeres it reaches up to 26.50 pesos, at the Rueda Medina malecón station.

The purified water produced on the island increased from 30 to 35 pesos, a 16.67% hike starting yesterday. One of the two supplying companies, Puritronic, reported that the adjustment responds to the increased cost of inputs it could no longer absorb, after several years without modifications.

Regarding tortillas, the sector representative, Román Kú, indicated that they have not been notified of an increase in the price per ton of flour, which is 19,000 pesos. However, he warned that an adjustment could be announced at any moment, which would prevent maintaining the current cost from three years ago.

Currently, the kilo is sold for 27 pesos without wrapping and 28 pesos with it. The profit margin is reduced due to the increased cost of diesel, gas, electricity, water, and taxes, so an increase of one peso is not ruled out.
