Cancún, Mexico — Three officers from the State Preventive Police were injured on Thursday afternoon after the patrol car they were traveling in overturned on the Ramal Norte highway, the stretch connecting Cancún with the continental zone of Isla Mujeres.

According to initial reports, the patrol car, bearing the number 12371, was traveling at excessive speed when its driver lost control on a curve. The unit crashed into a containment post, bounced off, and ended up overturned on the pavement.

The three officers were treated by paramedics who arrived at the scene and were subsequently transported to the General Hospital to receive medical attention.

Although the injured police officers argued that the accident was caused by a blown-out tire, witnesses at the location stated that excessive speed was the main cause.
