Playa del Carmen, QR — During the inauguration of the Cancún Travel Mart, led by Governor Mara Lezama and Alfonso Ballesteros Méndez, Director of Tourism Policy for the Federal Secretariat of Tourism, Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado highlighted the destination's strengthening role as an epicenter for major artistic, cultural, and traditional events in the Mexican Caribbean, solidifying its position as one of the most visited places in Mexico and the world.
The mayor reported that major hotel consortia in Playa del Carmen are currently reporting an average occupancy rate of 70 to 80 percent, reflecting the destination's tourism strength. She also noted her government's support for small and medium-sized hotels to increase their occupancy levels during the upcoming high season.
"Playa del Carmen continues to position itself as the safest municipality with the greatest legal certainty for investment. Our goal is to become the epicenter for the best events in Quintana Roo and the entire country," stated Estefanía Mercado. She emphasized the collaborative work with the entire tourism value chain, including transport providers and service vendors, to improve visitor services and strengthen the destination's competitiveness.
Playa del Carmen Celebrates Traditions and Landmark Events
Among the upcoming events that solidify the municipality's status as a cultural reference point for the Mexican Caribbean, Mayor Mercado highlighted Janal Pixán, one of the region's most emblematic celebrations, which attracts thousands of national and international visitors each year.
She added that this edition will feature representative altars from various states across the country, from Baja California to Yucatán, offering a gastronomic and cultural tour that will allow attendees to "sample all of Mexico" in one place.
Furthermore, Estefanía Mercado stressed that the municipality has demonstrated its logistical and organizational capacity to host major spectacles and festivals. This has sparked interest from important companies and entertainment promoters to hold their events in the city during the coming year.
"Playa del Carmen has it all: infrastructure, connectivity, security, and the best service in the world. We are ready to continue growing as a tourist destination of excellence, a pride for Quintana Roo and for all of Mexico," she concluded.
