Playa del Carmen Opens Largest Free Ice Rink in Quintana Roo

The large free ice rink opened in Playa del Carmen's Plaza 28 de Julio

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Playa del Carmen government, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, opened on Friday, December 12, the largest ice skating rink in the region, with the goal of allowing children, youth, and entire families to fully enjoy the December holidays in an atmosphere of joy, coexistence, and safety.

This free space is part of the Magical Christmas 2025 program, an initiative that seeks to strengthen social cohesion, promote community coexistence, and ensure that all families, especially the most vulnerable, have access to recreational and cultural activities during the Christmas season.

The ice rink, installed in Plaza 28 de Julio, was designed as a community meeting point where families can share moments of recreation, strengthen bonds, and create meaningful memories in a dignified and accessible environment.

The Playa del Carmen government emphasized that this type of action reflects a people-centered public policy that recognizes the value of public space as a driver of well-being, inclusion, and social peace.

As part of the municipal administration’s social commitment, the ice rink will remain open to the public until January 6, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with trained personnel to ensure a safe experience for all attendees.

These activities are part of a comprehensive strategy so that Christmas is not only a celebration but also an opportunity to bring culture, recreation, and joy to every corner of Playa del Carmen.

The Playa del Carmen government reaffirms that governing also involves creating conditions for enjoyment, unity, and collective well-being, especially on dates that invite solidarity and family gatherings.

With the opening of the largest ice rink in the region, the administration led by Estefanía Mercado reaffirms its commitment to building a more humane, inclusive city with a deep sense of community, where the December holidays are experienced with dignity, joy, and hope.
