Playa del Carmen — The government of Playa del Carmen, led by Municipal President Estefanía Mercado, has rehabilitated 99 parks and domes in various neighborhoods and subdivisions. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen security, improve urban infrastructure, and consolidate the city's identity.
"A well-lit, clean park with a distinct identity is a space that provides tranquility for families and strengthens community coexistence," stated the Mayor. She emphasized that the color "Playa Sand" reflects the city's Caribbean roots and essence, devoid of any political connotation.
Estefanía Mercado underscored that this program, which has a final goal of recovering 376 parks, is a key part of a strategy to reclaim public spaces with identity, security, and cleanliness, thereby promoting civic pride and a sense of belonging.
Julieta Martín Azueta, Secretary of Municipal Public Services, highlighted that the recovery work includes painting with the distinctive "Playa Sand" color, cleaning, rehabilitation of domes, benches, sports areas, children's playgrounds, as well as lighting and signage.
She announced that the neighborhoods and subdivisions intervened with so far include Colosio, Villas del Sol, Misión de las Flores, El Petén, Villamar, Zazil-Ha, Palmas I and II, Bellavista, La Guadalupana, Mundo Hábitat, Galaxia, Ejido, and the municipal delegation of Puerto Aventuras, among others. This ensures coverage across different sectors of the municipality.
Through these actions, the Municipal Government reinforces its commitment to working closely with citizens, improving the urban image, and consolidating the stature of Playa del Carmen by generating spaces that serve as meeting points and strengthen community life.
