Playa del Carmen Councilor Defends Record Against ‘Smear Campaign’

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Councilor Orlando Muñoz Gómez has publicly denied what he calls a “smear campaign” against his integrity, responding to recent media and social media reports questioning his ethical conduct.

The 2nd Councilor of Playa del Carmen, who also chairs the Municipal Commission for Citizen Security and Civil Protection, emphasized that his 25-year career in the city has always operated within legal boundaries.

“I have walked these streets with my head held high, and I will continue to do so. My commitment to this land is and will remain unbreakable,” Muñoz stated.

Transparency and Assets

Muñoz, a professional administrator, stressed that in none of his public responsibilities has he directly handled public funds, distancing himself from any accusations of misappropriation. He also highlighted that he maintains a simple and transparent lifestyle without using bodyguards or official vehicles.

Regarding his financial situation, the councilor was emphatic in stating that his assets result from decades of work: “Everything I have is the product of effort. I have worked since my youth to build, together with my family, an honest patrimony.”

Attacks Due to Results

For the councilor, the increase in accusations against him is not coincidental but rather a response to his active work in the city’s neighborhoods. He considered there is an “evident incongruity” in the fact that attacks arise precisely when there is closeness with people and tangible results.

“It seems that the norm is that if one is negligent or passive, nobody takes notice; but when there are results, desperate attempts emerge to discredit my work,” Muñoz lamented.

Open to Scrutiny

Under the premise that “those who have nothing to hide, fear nothing,” the official expressed his total willingness to appear before any authority that requires him. Similarly, he extended an open invitation to communication professionals to clarify any doubts based on facts rather than assumptions.

Finally, Orlando Muñoz assured that he will not stop his work agenda, stating that his conviction is stronger than any smear campaign and that he will continue advancing “hand in hand with the people.”
