Miami, Florida — The Platinum Xcaret Awards organization officially revealed the finalists for its 13th edition at an event held at Telemundo Center, with productions from 14 Iberoamerican countries vying for the top honors in film and television. The awards ceremony will take place on May 9 at the Gran Tlachco Theater in Xcaret Park, located in Mexico’s Riviera Maya.
Argentina and Spain Lead Nominations
Argentine and Spanish productions dominate this year’s nominations across both film and series categories. In film, Belén from Argentina and Los Domingos from Spain lead with 11 nominations each, followed by Brazil’s O agente secreto with eight and Spain’s Sirât with seven. For series, the Argentine production El Eternauta tops the list with 13 nominations, while Spain’s Anatomía de un instante follows with 12.
Expanded Categories and New Formats
This edition introduces 12 new categories, marking a significant expansion to recognize technical and artistic work. New film categories include Best Costume Design, Best Special Effects, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Series categories now incorporate technical awards such as Original Music, Editing, Art Direction, Cinematography, and Sound. Additionally, a new Long-Running Series category for works with over 26 episodes features contenders like Brazil’s Beleza Fatal and Spain’s La promesa.
Mexico as Host and Competitor
Enrique Cerezo, president of EGEDA and the Platinum Awards, expressed enthusiasm for returning to Mexico, stating, “Having the honor to award the best of our audiovisual work in a beloved country like Mexico is a challenge we take on with commitment.” Mexico not only hosts the event but also competes in series categories with titles such as Chespirito: sin querer queriendo and Las muertas.
Awards Schedule and Key Nominees
The awards will unfold in two phases: winners for 21 technical and supporting categories will be announced on April 16, with recipients traveling to Quintana Roo to receive their trophies. The main gala on May 9 will feature top awards, including Best Film, Best Direction, and Best Lead Performances, along with the Platinum Honor Award. Key nominees include:
- Best Fiction Film: Aún es de noche en Caracas (Venezuela), Belén (Argentina), Los Domingos (Spain), O agente secreto (Brazil), Sirât (Spain)
- Best Miniseries or Teleseries: Anatomía de un instante (Spain), Chespirito: sin querer queriendo (Mexico), El Eternauta (Argentina), Las muertas (Mexico)
- Best Direction (Film): Dolores Fonzi, Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, Kleber Mendonça Filho, Oliver Laxe
- Best Female Performance: Blanca Soroa (Spain), Patricia López Arnaiz (Spain), Dolores Fonzi (Argentina), Natalia Reyes (Venezuela)
- Best Male Performance: Alberto San Juan (Spain), Guillermo Francella (Argentina), Ubeimar Ríos Gómez (Colombia), Wagner Moura (Brazil)
The gala will broadcast across various television networks in the Americas and on the SmartPlatino TV platform, ensuring global reach for Iberoamerican culture.
