Cancún, Quintana Roo — More than 90% of students who applied for a spot in a high school in Quintana Roo have secured a place at one of their preferred campuses, leaving less than 10% to be reassigned in the coming days, according to state education officials.
Alberto Tun Calderón, deputy secretary of education for the northern zone, said the assignment process for upper secondary education has concluded. Unlike previous years, there was no entrance exam or grade-point average review, as access to this level is considered a right for all young people in the state.
Instead, education authorities considered factors such as age, state of origin, distance from home to school, and whether the applicant already has siblings enrolled at the campus.
Each student listed five school preferences on their application, and assignments were made in order of preference based on availability.
Of the 3,900 students who registered, more than 90% were placed in one of their five chosen schools. Those who did not get a spot will participate in a reassignment process scheduled for August 10–14 in Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Chetumal. Officials said all students will be offered a placement.
“No one will be left without a place to study,” Tun Calderón emphasized.
