Cancún, Quintana Roo — A mototaxi driver was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in Cancún’s Region 227, authorities reported.
The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Chetumal Avenue, approximately 50 meters from Costa Maya. The victim, a member of the “Islacun” union, died from a single gunshot wound.
Two conflicting accounts have emerged about the incident. One version suggests the driver was parked after dropping off a passenger when assailants pulled alongside and fired once. The other indicates he was shot while resisting a robbery, allegedly perpetrated by a passenger.
Municipal police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed the driver’s death. His identity remains unknown.
Forensic experts from the State Prosecutor’s Office processed the area before removing the body and transporting it to the medical examiner’s office.
Police authorities implemented an operation in the area but have not reported any arrests.
