Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Authorities are searching for Francisco Enrique Huerta Martínez, a 51-year-old man from the northern Mexican city of Monterrey who disappeared Sunday, Sept. 6, after the jet ski he was riding broke down in the maritime channel between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel.
Huerta Martínez was left adrift when the personal watercraft suffered a mechanical failure during the crossing, the Quintana Roo Search Commission said. The commission issued a missing-person bulletin under case number 702/ZN/CBPEQROO/2026.
The bulletin describes him as about 1.74 meters (5 feet 8 inches) tall and roughly 150 kilograms (330 pounds), with light brown skin, a robust build, straight black hair and brown eyes. He also has a surgical scar in the middle of his abdomen from a hernia operation.
He was last seen wearing beach clothes and a life vest, although the commission noted that his exact outfit has not been confirmed.
Maritime authorities and emergency crews are continuing search operations in the area. They are also looking for Eduardo Ceseña, who was traveling with Huerta Martínez on the jet ski. The Port Captaincy of Cozumel has asked fishermen, tourism operators and other vessels in the area to report any information that could help determine the whereabouts of both men.
