Over the past month, Mexico's Epidemiological Surveillance System of Respiratory Disease (Sisver) has observed a significant increase in Covid-19 cases. The number of infections has more than doubled, rising from 175 to 429 in the past week alone.

According to Sisver's most recent report, there are now a total of 8,075 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, resulting in 375 deaths. The areas hardest hit by the virus include Mexico City with 2,086 cases, the State of Mexico with 683, Queretaro with 701, Nuevo Leon with 509, and Puebla with 373.

The Health Secretariat's Information System of the IRAG Network, which monitors Severe Acute Respiratory Infections, has also raised concerns about hospital capacity. As of July 15, two medical facilities, the General Hospital of Apan in Hidalgo and the General Hospital Abarca Alarcon in Guerrero, are operating at full capacity for respiratory diseases. Additionally, 17 other medical units are operating between 50% and 70% capacity, including the November 20th ISSSTE Hospital in Mexico City, currently at 50% capacity.

Despite the surge in cases, the Health Secretariat maintains that the situation is under control. The current number of Covid-19 cases falls within the expected range for this time of year, based on previous years' data.

Sisver's data shows that as of the 27th epidemiological week of 2024, 8,075 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported. This represents an 8.2% positivity rate relative to the total number of suspected cases. The Health Secretariat reassures the public that in most cases, symptoms are mild and 64% of cases are treated on an outpatient basis, indicating that there is no cause for alarm.
