Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — With a celebration that combined tradition, family gathering, and tourism promotion, municipal president Estefanía Mercado led the cutting of a monumental 2.5-kilometer King’s Cake and the distribution of toys to children, reaffirming the municipal government’s commitment to cultural identity and social welfare.

Before hundreds of local families and visitors, the mayor emphasized that Playa del Carmen keeps its traditions alive as part of its social essence. She noted that, although the Christmas and New Year celebrations have concluded, the festive spirit extends until Candlemas Day, strengthening the sense of community and belonging.

The creation of the cake was made possible through the joint work of Vizcaya University and the Technological University, whose students and faculty contributed talent, discipline, and commitment to realize an event of great magnitude. Estefanía Mercado publicly recognized the participation of the university community as an example of social collaboration.

The celebration took place on Fifth Avenue, one of the municipality’s main tourist corridors. From there, the municipal president highlighted that tourist spaces should also be spaces for social interaction. “Today, Fifth Avenue filled with families speaks of a vibrant and safe city,” she stated.

Mercado emphasized that this type of event strengthens cultural identity and also drives the municipality’s economic development by integrating visitors and residents in celebrations that project a positive image of Playa del Carmen.

Subsequently, in an interview with media outlets, the mayor reiterated that security and public investment are central pillars of her administration. She reported that Playa del Carmen is currently the municipality that has invested the most in public works, with approximately 900 million pesos allocated to the recovery of streets, avenues, and strategic projects.

Furthermore, she highlighted the progress of social and welfare programs, beach maintenance, and community health initiatives such as Salud Sin Tanto Choro, focused on improving the quality of life for Playa del Carmen families.

Attending the event were Eduardo Asencio, Luis Herrera, Estefanía Hernández, Ernesto Martínez, Deyanira Martínez, Guillermo Brahms, as well as councilwomen and councilmen of the City Council.
