Mexico — The Maya Train has solidified itself as an ideal way to explore Mexico’s southeastern region affordably, with newly announced tourist packages making travel accessible during the current vacation season.
During a Wednesday morning press conference, Óscar David Lozano, Director General of the Maya Train, highlighted that ten tourist packages are now available, including flights from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) operated by Mexicana de Aviación, along with accommodations, transportation, tours, and cultural experiences.
“We estimate we’re already about 35% booked for this season, and we’re confident we’ll sell out completely,” Lozano stated.
Attractive Travel Options
Among the most appealing packages is “Mares y Lagunas” (Seas and Lagoons), priced at 17,840 pesos, which includes visits to Tulum, Bacalar, and Chetumal, blending history, nature, and culture in one of Mexico’s most iconic regions.
Each package varies in duration, dates, and pricing, allowing travelers to select options that fit their budget and schedule. New additions include the Mundo Maya hotel in Palenque, inaugurated in April, and community-based tourism routes developed in collaboration with local organizations and Mexico’s Tourism and Foreign Affairs ministries.
Connectivity and Local Benefits
The Maya Train’s 34 operational stations connect to six international airports, facilitating arrivals for domestic and international tourists through cities such as Palenque, Campeche, Mérida, Cancún, Tulum, and Chetumal.
Fifteen stations now offer bus routes to improve local mobility, with fares ranging from 35 to 55 pesos. Stations also feature travel agencies, car rentals, shops, restaurants, and artisan markets, boosting regional economies and supporting local businesses.
Community Tourism Initiatives
A key innovation is the integration of community tourism through the Alianza Peninsular para el Turismo Comunitario (APTC), where visitors engage directly with local communities, learning about their culture, cuisine, and traditions while promoting a more equitable and sustainable tourism model.
With these strategies, the Maya Train is not just a transportation alternative but a gateway to Mexico’s southeastern natural and cultural heritage, generating employment and economic growth in historically underserved areas.
The Maya Train continues to expand its offerings, positioning itself as a transformative project for tourism and regional development.
