Man Found Shot Dead Near Playa del Carmen Prison

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man was found shot to death in the early hours of Saturday on Prolongación Juárez Avenue, just steps from the Social Reinsertion Center (Cereso) in Playa del Carmen, authorities said.

The discovery was reported around 1:00 a.m. by people traveling along the avenue, who called the 911 emergency line after spotting what appeared to be an unconscious person on the side of the road. The body was found near a convenience store, a short distance before the prison.

According to initial reports, the man was lying in a pool of blood and had multiple injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

Officers from the Public Security Department arrived at the scene and confirmed the man had no vital signs. During an initial inspection, they observed several spent shell casings on the pavement, and the area was immediately secured.

Police cordoned off the site and restricted vehicle and pedestrian traffic to avoid disturbing possible evidence, then requested the State Prosecutor’s Office to carry out the corresponding proceedings.

Investigators and forensic specialists processed the scene, documenting the position of the body and collecting ballistic evidence that could help clarify the homicide.

Once the on-site proceedings were completed, the body was removed and taken to the Forensic Medical Service facilities.
