Police respond to robbery attempt at Chedraui supermarket in Villas del Mar, Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A police mobilization occurred Sunday morning at the Chedraui supermarket in Villas del Mar after a man was detained by store personnel for allegedly attempting to steal merchandise.

The incident occurred just before 9:00 a.m. at the store located on Tules Avenue with Kabah, in Region 248, when an emergency call to 911 alerted authorities about a person who was supposedly armed inside the supermarket, causing concern among customers and employees.

According to preliminary information, the subject, between 30 and 35 years old, entered the establishment and tried to steal several pieces of clothing. However, his behavior was detected by surveillance cameras, which allowed security personnel and workers to act immediately, intercepting him as he attempted to leave the premises.

Following the report, Municipal Police unit 5040 arrived at the site. Officers entered the supermarket, interviewed the staff, and proceeded to secure the individual, who was wearing a black t-shirt, khaki military-style shorts, black sneakers, and a black cap.

The man was placed in the patrol car and taken to the facilities of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, where he would later be turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to determine his legal status.

Although initial reports suggested the detainee was carrying a weapon, authorities have not yet confirmed whether any such object was secured from him. If confirmed, his legal situation could become more complicated as investigations progress.
