Global Ambitions: Playa del Carmen Brand Goes International

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, April 2, 2025 — Mayor Estefanía Mercado is spearheading a campaign to promote the "Made in Playa del Carmen" brand in international markets. The initiative aims to stimulate investment and provide social benefits by training entrepreneurs and supporting micro, small, and medium-sized businesses.

The campaign is a strategic move designed to bolster the local economy. Mayor Mercado emphasizes the importance of training as a crucial step in this process.

Early results from the campaign are promising. Products bearing the "Made in Playa del Carmen" label were recently showcased at a fair in Orlando, Florida. Antón Bojórquez, Secretary of Economic Development and Investment Attraction, was an active participant at the event.

Secretary Bojórquez is optimistic that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States will approve the sale of "Made in Playa del Carmen" products by August this year. This follows confirmation that the products meet quality and hygiene standards. Bojórquez underlines that the campaign to introduce the "Made in Playa del Carmen" brand to new markets both domestically and internationally is a strategic move initiated by Mayor Mercado. The strategy emerged from citizen consultations that formed the Municipal Development Plan for 2024-2027. Bojórquez affirms, "We are not improvising. We are promoting the brand to ensure that products made by our local entrepreneurs and traders make a significant impact overseas."

Promoting the brand also reinforces the identity of Playa del Carmen. It contributes to the marketing of other local brands such as "Ciudad Playa" and the "Let's Playa" App, which are also being introduced to global markets.

A variety of products, including honey, jams, sauces, handicrafts, and embroidery items, are already available locally and statewide in markets, terminals, and stations of the Tren Maya. They can also be found at airports managed by the Secretary of Defence (Sedena).
