Early Tuesday morning, a deserted gray Ford Figo riddled with bullet holes was discovered on the Tulum-Cobá state highway. The vehicle was found on the side of the road with its doors open. The initial report came in around 6:00 a.m. via the emergency hotline 911, alerting authorities to a suspicious car near the Maya Train bridge.
This report prompted an immediate response from both the Tulum Municipal Police and the State Police. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the vehicle, a gray Ford with license plates MSM5751 from the State of Mexico, had multiple bullet impacts on the windshield and sides, and appeared to have been abandoned hastily.
Inside the vehicle, authorities discovered a high-caliber AK 47 firearm, colloquially known as a “goat's horn,” and approximately 13 shell casings on the road. The area was quickly secured, and an investigation was launched.
There is speculation that the vehicle's occupants may have been kidnapped. However, it is yet to be confirmed whether this was a kidnapping incident or if the presence of the firearm indicates a confrontation between criminal gangs.
Investigative agents from the Ministerial Police and forensic experts from the Prosecutor's Office were dispatched to the scene to gather evidence and collect ballistic data. Their goal is to determine the vehicle's origin and whether it is connected to any criminal activities.
No further details about the incident have been released at this time. However, additional information is expected to be disclosed in the coming hours.
