Jethro Brito, 13, Wins National Duathlon Title at CONADE 2026

Jethro Brito, a 13-year-old boy from Cancun, holding a gold medal after winning the national duathlon championship at CONADE 2026.

Cancun, Quintana Roo — At just 13 years old, Jethro Brito has become a standout young athlete in Mexico, winning the national duathlon championship at the CONADE 2026 National Olympiad in Bahia de Banderas, Nayarit.

Competing in a demanding format — 200 meters run, 4 kilometers cycling, and a 1-kilometer closing run — Brito finished in 11 minutes and 18 seconds, outpacing the country’s best in his category. His victory marked the first gold medal for Quintana Roo at this year’s games.

Brito is an unusual athlete: he competes in three distinct disciplines — triathlon, duathlon, and athletics — a feat rare even among professionals. Each requires specific training and separate qualifying processes.

In his triathlon debut at the same event, he placed fifth nationally. He is also preparing for the 2,000-meter run in the under-16 category on May 16 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, where he enters with one of the best times in the country.

Behind his success is coach Manuel Martinez, who has guided his development. Brito’s ultimate goal is to represent Mexico at the 2032 Olympic Games in Australia, with aspirations to compete in the Central American and Pan American Games along the way.
