Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The historic Hacienda Mundaca park has reopened to the public after years of closure, marking a significant restoration of cultural heritage on this island destination.
Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde led the ribbon-cutting ceremony, fulfilling what she described as a commitment to the community. “Our Hacienda Mundaca park is now open to the public; you can visit from Monday to Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.,” she announced on social media. “Come see it and enjoy its magic, history, and nature!”
Restoring a Community Landmark
The park, which had been closed for several years and fallen into disrepair, has been rehabilitated as part of a strategy to reclaim public spaces with historical identity. Gómez Ricalde emphasized that the restoration aims to strengthen community pride and enhance the visitor experience.
“For years the site remained abandoned, which affected its image and limited its potential,” she said during the event. “With this intervention, we seek to strengthen the sense of belonging within the community and improve the experience for visitors.”
Tourism and Cultural Boost
The reopening includes several improvements designed to make the park more attractive and accessible:
- Rehabilitated trails for safe walking tours
- A new observation tower
- Upgrades to the outdoor theater
- New sculptures installed throughout the grounds
- More accessible spaces for visitors
Authorities noted that the restoration not only recovers a historical space but also provides an economic boost to local service providers and strengthens the municipal economy while promoting cultural heritage.
