Cancún, Mexico — An inmate at the Centro de Reinserción Social (Cereso) in Cancún was found dead early this morning, just 24 hours after being admitted. The unconscious inmate was discovered by on-duty prison staff, which prompted the immediate activation of emergency protocols.
The man was identified as Cristóbal “N”, 37 years old, who had entered the prison last Thursday following an arrest warrant issued against him for the crime of domestic violence. Paramedics from the Escuadrón de Rescate y Urgencias Médicas (ERUM), affiliated with the Secretary of Citizen Security, arrived at the penitentiary center shortly thereafter and confirmed the inmate no longer showed any vital signs.
An unofficial report indicates that a heart attack may have been the cause of the man's death; however, this information has yet to be confirmed by the authorities. Forensic personnel from the State Attorney General's Office conducted the removal of the body for transfer to the Medical Forensic Service.
