INE officials destroying voter ID cards in Quintana Roo

Cancún, MX. A total of 25,788 undeliverable and returned voter ID cards were destroyed this Thursday by the National Electoral Institute (INE) in Quintana Roo, as part of the First Ordinary Session of the year of the Federal Voter Registry (RFE) Surveillance Commission.

According to official data, the cards corresponded to the period from October 1 to December 31.

As part of the verification process, 20 percent of this universe, equivalent to 5,158 cards, were read aloud during the session.

The procedure is carried out quarterly and includes cards returned for various reasons, such as delivery by third parties, subsequent moves, death, exchange, or other scenarios provided for in the regulations.

Yessenia Polanco Dzib, vocal of the Federal Voter Registry, stated that this procedure is essential to keep the Electoral Roll updated and protect citizens’ information, by ensuring that cards that should no longer be in circulation are properly verified and destroyed in accordance with current regulations.

In detail, in District 01, 9,354 cards were destroyed; in District 02, a total of 4,295; in District 03, 7,909; and in District 04, finally, 4,230.

Polanco Dzib also reported on the operation of Citizen Service Modules during the period from December 16, 2025, to January 25, 2026.

During this period, she said, 42,454 procedures were carried out and 35,204 voter ID cards were delivered to citizens.

Furthermore, she revealed that, as of January 25, 2026, there are 17,255 Voter ID Card Forms available for delivery at the Citizen Service Modules.

In District 01, 4,403 forms are distributed; in District 02, 3,819; in District 03, 6,838; and in District 04, a total of 2,195.

Finally, she detailed that the records in the Electoral Roll of Voter ID Cards, corresponding to 2025 cards that are deactivated due to expiration as of January 1, 2026, amount to a total of 42,584.
