Cancun, Quintana Roo — A young motorcyclist was shot multiple times Tuesday evening while riding through the Villas del Mar neighborhood, prompting a major security response from local, state, and federal authorities.
Police received a 911 call around 8:20 p.m. from residents on Tercera Privada Petunias in Supermanzana 248, reporting that individuals on a motorcycle had fired directly at a man who was also riding a motorcycle.
The C5 security complex activated a “Code Red” alert, mobilizing police and emergency medical personnel. Cancun police officers arrived first and found the victim lying on the street next to a black motorcycle. Paramedics from the Municipal Civil Protection Department soon followed.
The victim, approximately 25 years old, was alive and transported to the General Hospital Dr. Jesus Kumate Rodriguez, where he was listed in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds. At least six spent shell casings were found at the scene and will be analyzed by the State Prosecutor’s Office ballistic unit.
Witnesses told investigators that the attackers pulled up alongside the victim on a motorcycle and fired about five times. After the victim fell, one assailant got off the motorcycle, approached, and shot him in the chest at close range before fleeing.
The area was cordoned off by municipal police to preserve evidence. The shell casings are believed to be from a 9mm handgun. A pair of sneakers, a helmet, and a cap — apparently belonging to the victim — were also found.
Investigators from the Ministerial Police and forensic experts from the State Prosecutor’s Office arrived to process the scene. The motorcycle was seized and turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Surveillance cameras in the area will be reviewed to identify the suspects.
The motive for the attack remains unknown, and the victim’s identity has not been confirmed. The investigation is ongoing.
