Cancún, Mexico — Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has confirmed that the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, will visit Cancún this Sunday, September 21. The visit is part of the President's nationwide tour for an exercise in accountability.
During her weekly program "La Voz del Pueblo," Governor Lezama stated that the specific time and location for the President's engagement with the people of Quintana Roo would be announced. She described the event as part of a "accountability tour happening across the country. In our case, it is to report on the programs and actions for the well-being of Quintana Roo's residents."
The Governor also reflected on the recent historic Independence Day celebration, noting that the first female President to wear the Presidential Sash remembered the heroines who gave the nation its homeland and freedom. She expressed gratitude to the residents of Quintana Roo who participated in activities in the state capital, Chetumal, for both the Cry of Independence ceremony and the civic-military parade, reporting that both events concluded without incident.
Addressing current weather conditions, Governor Lezama explained that the ongoing rainfall in Quintana Roo is a result of tropical wave 33 interacting with a trough. This weather system caused 92 millimeters of rain to fall in Cancún's hotel zone. She urged the public to drive with caution, as precipitation is expected to continue throughout the day.
Another significant initiative highlighted was the ongoing cleft lip and palate surgery campaign. Through this program, the DIF Quintana Roo, led by honorary president Verónica Lezama Espinosa, is transforming lives. The Governor extended her thanks to IMSS Bienestar and its director, Alejandro Svarch, for the support provided to these humanistic actions, which she described as being undertaken "with a feminist heart."
During the program, Governor Lezama also summarized the week's activities, which included the presentations of reports by the state's 11 municipal presidents. She stated these reports made it clear that "the transformation is advancing without return."
Regarding Tulum's beaches, the Governor announced that following the opening of public access points, her administration is now working with General Adolfo Héctor Tonatiuh Velasco Bernal, director general of the Olmeca-Maya-Mexica Airport, Railway, Auxiliary and Related Services Group (GAFSACOMM), on a project for the conservation of the sandy shores.
"We want to have the beaches super well-maintained, with all the distinctions, like the Blue Flag certification, and as required by the regulations since it is a protected area. We will have news soon," she said.
Governor Lezama also used the platform to invite all traditional Mayan midwives to participate in the First Census to be conducted shortly. The aim is to determine how many are dedicated to this ancestral work, understand their needs, and listen to their knowledge.
Finally, she announced that a drill will be held on Friday, September 19, in observance of National Civil Protection Day. The exercise in Quintana Roo will simulate response actions for a Category 4 hurricane. Governor Lezama asked the public not to be alarmed by the drill, especially given the current rainy conditions, clarifying, "It is a simulation."
