Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — During the Eighth Ordinary Session of the Municipal Committee on Sexual Diversity, officials presented the official call for the 2025 LGBTTTIQA+ Diversity March, scheduled for June 28 in commemoration of International Pride Day.
The session, held at the "Leona Vicario" auditorium in the new Municipal Palace, was led by council members Marian Solís and Danna Ramírez. Activist Juan Zavala Hernández, president of the Diversity Committee, urged public participation and institutional support to ensure a safe, respectful, and discrimination-free event.
"The march is an act of resistance, visibility, and dignity. It is family-friendly, peaceful, and entirely nonpartisan. We ask for the support of society and authorities to continue building a Playa del Carmen where everyone can live and express themselves freely," Zavala Hernández stated.
Recognition of Municipal Leadership
A key highlight of the session was the acknowledgment of Mayor Estefanía Mercado’s commitment to inclusive public policies and concrete actions advancing the human rights of the LGBTTTIQA+ community. Councilor Marian Solís emphasized that under Mercado’s leadership, Playa del Carmen has made significant strides in gender identity recognition, equal marriage, and institutional support for sexual diversity groups.
During general matters, attendees were invited to participate in the equal marriage ceremonies on June 30 and to continue advocating for policies ensuring equality, respect, and inclusion at all government levels.
"This is not a fight for just one month. It is a permanent, collective, and deeply human cause. In Playa del Carmen, under Mayor Estefanía Mercado’s administration, we work every day for a fairer and more dignified municipality for all," added Councilor Danna Ramírez.
Broad Institutional Support
Also present were councilors Alma Rodríguez, Josefina Muza, Milagros Álvarez, and Juan Novelo, as well as Secretary of Social Justice and Citizen Participation Deyanira Martínez Estrada. They expressed their backing for the march and cross-cutting efforts to eradicate all forms of discrimination.
The event underscored the city’s ongoing efforts to foster inclusivity and uphold the rights of marginalized communities.
