Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A former middle school teacher has been arrested on charges of raping a teenage student over the course of a month, authorities said Saturday.

The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office, through its Specialized Unit for Sexual Crimes, executed an arrest warrant for Wilbert “N” in the Misión Villamar 1 neighborhood. The suspect is accused of aggravated rape of a minor, whose identity has been withheld.

According to the complaint, Wilbert began a relationship with the victim while he was her teacher at a secondary school in Playa del Carmen. Between April 16 and May 16 of this year, he lived with the girl at a home on Calle 102 Norte between Avenidas 20 and 25 Norte in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood.

During that month, the pair lived together in what authorities described as a marriage-like arrangement. Prosecutors allege that Wilbert sexually assaulted the victim at least four times, using physical and psychological violence to subdue her.

After reviewing evidence presented by the specialized prosecutor’s office, a judge issued the arrest warrant. Investigative agents arrested Wilbert on Calle Playa del Carmen between Ceiba and Caoba streets, near the Misión Villamar 1 subdivision.

He was taken to the State Prosecutor’s Office in the Northern District and turned over to the judicial authority that requested his arrest. A preliminary hearing is expected within the constitutional timeframe to determine his legal status and possible formal charges.
