Cancún, Mexico — The number of foreign nationals seeking employment in Cancún has risen significantly in recent weeks, with individuals from Cuba, Venezuela, and Colombia increasingly turning to municipal job placement services. According to Luis Enrique Hernández Castillo, Director of Labor Linkage Services for the Benito Juárez municipality, approximately 15 foreign applicants visit the Employment Office or attend local job fairs each month.
Foreign Job Seekers Navigate Documentation Requirements
Hernández Castillo noted that nearly half of the applicants arrive with essential documentation, including Mexico’s Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) and Federal Taxpayer Registry (RFC), which are mandatory for securing employment. Those lacking proper paperwork are directed to organizations such as the UN Refugee Agency (ACNUR) or local refugee shelters to begin legal residency processes before entering the workforce.
Despite the holiday season, job availability remains robust, with 40 companies currently offering over 2,000 positions across 196 different job profiles. Opportunities range from administrative and managerial roles to operational and cleaning positions at Cancún International Airport.
Upcoming Job Fair to Maintain Momentum
The next installment of the municipal job fair, Ven y Empléate (“Come and Get Hired”), is scheduled for August 21 at El Crucero park from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Hernández Castillo confirmed that the event will maintain the same volume of vacancies, providing continued opportunities for both local and foreign job seekers in Benito Juárez.
