Riviera Maya, Mexico — Motorists traveling on Federal Highway 307 near Calica reported a fire on a vacant lot located beneath high-voltage power lines, prompting firefighters to respond and control the blaze.
The incident occurred around 12:00 p.m. today at kilometer 282, where passing motorists observed flames spreading across an empty plot of land in the area.
The most significant risk involved medium-tension cables hanging overhead, which were being reached by the fire and could have been damaged or burst, potentially causing electrical service disruptions in the city.
Emergency services were immediately contacted via the 911 emergency number to request firefighter intervention, and crews were dispatched to the scene to begin operations to extinguish the flames.
Fortunately, due to the rapid response to the situation, the fire did not spread extensively, and damage to the power lines was prevented.
