Cancun, Quintana Roo — A large fire broke out Monday morning at the Del Valle bus depot on Miguel Hidalgo Avenue (Ruta 5) in Supermanzana 73, destroying four buses and a van and prompting a major emergency response.
Firefighters from the Cancun Fire Department arrived quickly with multiple specialized units to battle the flames, which threatened to spread to other vehicles and nearby properties. The area was secured due to the intensity of the fire and the presence of potentially hazardous materials.
Twenty-two firefighters, supported by pump trucks, rescue units, and water tankers, worked to control the blaze. As a precaution, 10 people were evacuated from the site.
Authorities confirmed no injuries or cases of smoke inhalation. However, material losses were significant: four buses and a van were completely destroyed, and two other vehicles suffered partial damage.
After extinguishing the flames, crews spent hours cooling the area to prevent re-ignition and inspected the facility for additional hazards. They removed gas cylinders used for welding, checked electrical installations, and temporarily closed part of the workshop due to the risk of concrete spalling from the heat.
Municipal police and traffic officers closed lanes on Miguel Hidalgo Avenue near Calle 23 and Avenida Torcasita to allow emergency vehicles access and prevent accidents. Civil protection, municipal public services personnel, and company representatives also assisted.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
