Federal Agents Arrest Suspect After Chase in Playa del Carmen, Sparking Kidnap Fears

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A joint operation by federal and municipal authorities in Playa del Carmen on Sunday afternoon ended with the arrest of a suspect on a federal warrant, after a chase that initially sparked rumors of a kidnapping near Plaza Las Americas.

According to preliminary reports, federal agents attempted to intercept the suspect near the shopping center. When the individual noticed the police presence, he fled, triggering a pursuit through several city streets.

Officers from the Playa del Carmen Public Security Department assisted federal agents during the chase.

The pursuit ended at the intersection of Boulevard Playa del Carmen and Avenida 28 de Julio, where authorities apprehended the suspect in compliance with a federal arrest warrant.

The heavy police presence caused concern among motorists and bystanders, as initial reports suggested a possible kidnapping. However, authorities later confirmed the operation was a lawful arrest.

Officials have not released the suspect’s identity or the charges against him.
