A man tragically lost his life yesterday afternoon in a fatal collision on the federal Tulum-Playa del Carmen highway. The man was driving a Renault Sandero when he crashed into the rear of a parked double-trailer truck at kilometer 246.
Initial reports suggest that the driver, who was possibly under the influence of alcohol, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the truck. The truck belonged to the Sumacasa trading company and was parked at the time of the accident. The force of the impact was so great that the driver was trapped inside his vehicle and died instantly.
Emergency services arrived at the scene but were unable to save the man due to the severity of the crash. The victim's identity remains unknown as no official identification has been made.
Local police officers and staff from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) were present at the scene to carry out the necessary procedures and determine the cause of the accident.
Adding to the uncertainty, the truck driver, who was parked at the site, left the scene after the impact. Authorities are currently investigating to locate the truck driver and determine his involvement in the accident.
