In the early hours of Sunday, a taxi driver from the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Union was fatally shot on Arco Vial Avenue at the intersection with Solidaridad Avenue, in Playa del Carmen. Initial reports suggest that the driver was in his vehicle when two assailants on a motorcycle intercepted him. Without any exchange of words, the attackers fired at the driver.
Attempting to flee, the driver was struck by bullets after only a few meters. Local residents quickly reported the incident to the emergency services via 911. Upon arrival, Municipal Police officers discovered the man on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the swift response of paramedics, they were only able to confirm the absence of vital signs. The victim had sustained at least seven gunshot wounds to various parts of his body.
The crime scene was promptly cordoned off by authorities to allow for a thorough investigation. Experts from the State Attorney General's Office collected evidence and transferred the body to the Forensic Medical Service for a legal autopsy.
As of now, no arrests have been made in relation to this violent crime. The Investigative Police are currently reviewing footage from nearby security cameras in an attempt to identify the assailants. The case remains under active investigation.
