Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A surge in violence shook Playa del Carmen today, marked by the burning of a vehicle and the appearance of two narcomantas (drug cartel banners) directly accusing the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of being a "factor generating violence" in the city. The incidents, carried out by hitmen from a criminal organization, point to a dangerous confrontation between criminal groups and authorities.
Coordinated Attacks and Explicit Threats
The first incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on Avenida 40, between Calles 2 Bis and 4 in the Centro neighborhood. Criminals left a narcomanta with explicit threats targeting the Ministerial Police and set fire to a white Jetta to ensure public attention. The vehicle’s owner, alerted by the car alarm, stepped outside to find her car engulfed in flames and the ominous banner draped over it. She promptly removed the banner.
Tensions escalated three hours later when a second narcomanta with the same threatening message appeared on the perimeter wall of the Poliforum, located on Calle 5 Sur between Avenidas 105 and 115. The repetition of the message not only amplified the threat but also suggested a coordinated operation and an open challenge to authorities.
The Narcomanta’s Message
The banner’s text read:
“You think you’re so tough, you sons of b*****s in the Ministerial Police? Arresting nobodies and pinning drugs, weapons, and executions on them. We’re still here, and we’re not leaving just because you broke agreements and act like you’re untouchable. The purge will continue for betraying us. You won’t get away with it, you filthy, corrupt rats. Watch your backs—we’re coming for you, you worthless scum. Signed: Cártel de Caborca.”
The threats are of extreme gravity, directly implicating the FGE and heightening public concern over rising insecurity and the alleged collusion or inefficacy of certain police forces.
Authorities Under Scrutiny
The incidents underscore the volatile security situation in Playa del Carmen, where criminal groups are increasingly brazen in their confrontations with law enforcement. The explicit accusations against the Ministerial Police raise questions about their role in either combating or exacerbating violence in the region.
No official statement from the FGE or local authorities has been released at this time.
