Electronic Payment Testing Begins for MOBI Transit System in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) will spend two weeks testing electronic fare payments before Route 27 transitions from its pilot phase to full official operation as part of the MOBI system in Cancún.

Rafael Hernández Kotasek, the institute’s director, said the testing period will verify that the electronic payment system works correctly.

In the coming days, the credentialing process will also begin. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa is expected to provide more details on digital payments and credentialing by Thursday at the latest.

Route 27, which runs over the Nichupté Bridge, will leave its pilot phase and begin official operations by mid-August, Hernández Kotasek stated.

“We expect that by the middle of next month, Route 27 will be in operation, no longer as a test version but in its final form,” he said.

Once Route 27 is fully operational, Imoveqroo will start testing a second route, with buses entering through kilometer zero of the Hotel Zone.

A third route will begin operations in early September, with buses traveling along Avenida Cancún before merging onto Avenida Kabah.

The operational tests are taking place in both Cancún and Chetumal as part of the MOBI system implementation, which will feature modern buses designed to provide safer, more organized, and accessible service, while giving passengers clarity on official boarding and alighting points.
