A cyclist tragically lost their life on the Playa del Carmen-Tulum highway near Xpu Ha, after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident. The event took place on Thursday night as the cyclist was returning home from a local convenience store located within a gas station.
The driver responsible for the collision fled the scene, leaving the cyclist unconscious on the road. The vehicle was reportedly traveling from south to north towards Playa del Carmen. There are currently no further details available about the driver or the vehicle.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident via a 911 call. Two ambulances, one private and one from Civil Protection, promptly arrived at the scene. Unfortunately, the cyclist showed no signs of life upon their arrival.
The investigation into the incident has been taken over by the State Attorney General's office. The identity of the deceased cyclist is yet to be determined.
