Mahahual, Quintana Roo — A crocodile was captured moving across a thick layer of sargasso that had piled up on the shore in Mahahual, a coastal town in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco.
Images show the reptile walking over the seaweed near an area where fishing boats often take shelter, drawing the attention of those who recorded the sighting.
Crocodile encounters are not unusual along the Mexican Caribbean coast. The region’s natural conditions — including mangroves, estuaries, and waterways connected to the sea — provide suitable habitat for these reptiles. Sightings near beaches, docks, and tourist spots occur regularly, especially during periods of heavy sargasso accumulation.
