Cozumel Welcomes 2,600 Swimmers for Oceanman’s 10th Anniversary

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The island will welcome 2,600 athletes from 20 countries for the Oceanman Cozumel 2026 open-water swimming event, scheduled to run from July 31 to August 2. The competition, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, is the only international open-water event in Mexico and includes races for children, beginners, relay teams and experienced swimmers.

The three-day event starts each day at 7 a.m. and features categories including the Oceanman 10 km, Half Oceanman 5 km, Sprint 1.5 km and OceanKids 500 m. Organizers emphasized that the tournament is not only for professional swimmers, with challenges designed for beginners and children as well.

At a press conference, Fermín Egido, founder and global CEO of Oceanman, recalled that the first Cozumel edition in 2016 drew just 250 competitors. A decade later, the event has become a benchmark on the global circuit and was the first Oceanman race held in the Americas.

Egido praised Cozumel as a destination, citing its warm waters and experience hosting triathlons and endurance competitions. “It has a water quality you don’t find anywhere else, tremendous visibility, and you can also enjoy what’s below the surface,” he said. “Add to that Mexican hospitality, Mexican food, the island’s extreme beauty, and we have a venue that is protected from sargassum.”

The race venue has not yet been officially confirmed. The registration platform lists Playa Palancar, in the island’s southern zone, as the host site, while other information from the circuit has mentioned Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park as a possible start and finish area.
