Police officers at a drug arrest scene in Chetumal

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Authorities arrested a couple on drug charges in Chetumal after a surveillance operation in the Adolfo López Mateos neighborhood, seizing dozens of suspected drug doses and a motorcycle.

The Public Security Department (SSC) identified the suspects as Luis Edwin “N” and Laura Viridiana “N,” who are accused of involvement in drug-related crimes. Officials also said the man is linked to several robberies at Oxxo convenience stores in the municipality.

The arrests took place during preventive patrols by SSC’s Grupo Centurión, in coordination with the Mexican Navy (Semar), the Mexican Army (Defensa), the National Guard, and the Othón P. Blanco Municipal Police.

During the patrol, officers observed two people exchanging several small transparent plastic bags containing green, dry plant material resembling marijuana, prompting an inspection.

Officers seized 56 bags of suspected marijuana and 23 bags of a crystalline substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine, along with two motorcycle helmets and an Italika 125Z motorcycle, blue and black, with Quintana Roo plates. The helmets included one black with white and green stripes and another black with gold details.

Luis Edwin “N” and Laura Viridiana “N” were turned over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Drug Dealing, which will continue the investigation and determine their legal status.
