Corozal, Belize — The Corozal Free Zone (CFZ) will mark its 30th anniversary this weekend with a free, binational festival featuring live music, cultural performances, and exclusive promotions. The event, open to the public, commemorates three decades of economic growth and cross-border exchange between Belize and Mexico.
A Legacy of Cross-Border Commerce
Located directly across from Subteniente López in Quintana Roo, Mexico, the CFZ began operations in 1995 and now hosts 328 active businesses. Over the past 30 years, it has generated more than 2,000 direct jobs and attracts over 1.2 million annual visitors, primarily from Mexico. Bilateral agreements allow Mexican citizens to enter without a passport, facilitating robust trade and tourism between the two nations.
Festival Highlights: Music, Culture, and Prizes
The celebration will take place on July 26 and 27 at QS Plaza, situated near the Shell gas station. The lineup includes performances by artists such as Supa G, DJ Diablillo, Los Crackers de Chetumal, and Taprick, alongside cultural presentations by the Corozal Community College. Attendees can also explore an expo featuring anniversary discounts and participate in giveaways.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Strategic Partnerships
During a press conference, CFZ Executive Director Neri Ramírez highlighted recent infrastructure improvements, including renovated access roads in Santa Elena and the installation of free WiFi along Freedom Avenue. Ramírez also acknowledged the contributions of key partners who have supported the zone’s development.
Anniversary Prizes and Contests
As part of the festivities, a luxury stay in San Pedro, Belize, will be raffled among local merchants. Additionally, a social media contest offers a cash prize of 30,000 Mexican pesos. Winners will be announced on July 27.
The event underscores the CFZ’s role as a vital economic hub while celebrating its cultural ties to both Belize and Mexico.
