Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A court-ordered eviction attempt turned violent Wednesday morning in the Colonia Colosio neighborhood, resulting in a clash between residents and municipal police officers that left two people injured.
The incident occurred at a residence on 104th Street between 10th and 15th Avenues, where police arrived to provide security for a court official executing an eviction order.
According to initial reports, the situation escalated when neighbors gathered in support of the resident facing eviction, who reportedly has lived at the property for approximately 30 years. The gathering led to a confrontational atmosphere that devolved into shoving, objects being thrown, and moments of disorder.
During the confrontation, two people were injured and the woman involved in the eviction process was detained. The eviction attempt was suspended and not completed.
The event highlights the complex situation in Colonia Colosio, a neighborhood that historically began as an informal settlement but has gained significant value over time due to its proximity to tourist areas and the beach.
This context has led to numerous legal and social conflicts over land ownership, including cases involving property sales and resales, with some allegations pointing to the involvement of the Riviera Maya Development Agency (Derimaya), which was responsible for regularizing the area.
Authorities and emergency services responded to the scene, which unfolded near a secondary school. No students were reported affected.
