CG News Director Survives Second Armed Assault in Cancún

Nezahualcóyotl Cordero García, the director of CG News, recently became the target of an armed attack at his home in Cancún, Quintana Roo. The assailants reportedly fired at the exterior of his house before quickly fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. Thankfully, Cordero García and his family were not harmed during the incident. This marks the second time the director has been targeted. In 2022, he was assaulted by an individual who held a gun to his head. Luckily, neighbors intervened, leading to the attacker's arrest.

Following the recent attack, Cordero García shared a live broadcast on his news portal. He detailed the events and reminded his audience that he is a member of the Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists. He also revealed that he had been receiving threatening messages prior to the attack. Cordero García has since reported the incident to the Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists. Local media reports suggest that the attackers fired at least six shots at his home.
