Cancún, Mexico — Cien Grupo Inmobiliario has announced an investment of approximately 800 million pesos for the construction of a hybrid shopping center in Cancún that will combine a wholesale market with a supermarket in the city’s downtown area.
A Modern Marketplace Concept
Jorge Antonio Handal Canavati, director of the business group, confirmed that the project has already been tested in other locations. "Typically, shopping centers are anchored by a large retail store; here, the anchor will be a modern wholesale market," he explained.
Handal Canavati elaborated on the concept, stating, "By 'modern,' I mean offering a variety of fresh products, competitive prices, and quality goods from the countryside, all within a commercial space that provides the convenience and amenities of a supermarket."
In addition to the market, the shopping center will feature sections dedicated to technology, healthcare (offering low-cost services), dining, and traditional Mexican shops. All products sold in the complex will be made in Mexico, supporting local farmers, merchants, entrepreneurs, and artisans.
Expansion of the 'Multicomercial' Model
Grupo Cien is currently expanding its 'Multicomercial' concept, with existing locations in the Nuevo León municipalities of Guadalupe and Apodaca. Additional projects are underway in Querétaro, Saltillo, Zapopan, and now Cancún.
"These shopping centers are aimed at middle- and lower-middle-class consumers, situated in residential neighborhoods," Handal Canavati noted. The Cancún location will be positioned in the city center, surrounded by housing, to ensure accessibility for local shoppers.
Expected Opening and Partnerships
The company estimates the Cancún shopping center will begin operations in the first quarter of 2026. Grupo Cien is collaborating with the Consejo Nacional de Jóvenes (Conajo), the state government, and the Benito Juárez municipal government to encourage participation from local producers and artisans.
This project will be featured at the upcoming E50-Empresarios 2025 event, now in its fifth edition, titled Alianzas-Empresariales Hecho en México (Business Alliances Made in Mexico). The conference is scheduled to take place in Cancún on August 22.
