Cancún, Quintana Roo — A tragic accident occurred Monday night in Cancún’s Hotel Zone, near kilometer 3.5, where a 77-year-old woman died after being struck by a pickup truck whose driver fled the scene without providing assistance.
Details of the Incident
According to preliminary reports, the victim was walking in the area when she was hit by a black pickup truck. The driver did not stop, leaving the woman lying on the pavement with fatal injuries. Witnesses confirmed the vehicle continued without offering aid.
Private paramedics arrived at the scene but could only confirm the victim’s death. Police cordoned off the area to allow forensic teams from the State Attorney General’s Office to conduct their investigation. The body was covered with a surgical sheet before being transported to the Forensic Medical Service for an official determination of the cause of death.
Traffic Disruptions and Ongoing Investigation
During the forensic procedures, partial road closures caused traffic disruptions in the area. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and gathering witness testimonies to locate the driver responsible for the hit-and-run.
The investigation remains active as officials work to identify and apprehend the suspect.
