Tulum, Quintana Roo — A cargo truck overturned on Highway 307 near Caleta Tankah on Thursday morning, causing traffic disruptions but leaving the driver and passenger unharmed.
The Nissan work truck, with license plates from Yucatán state, ended up on its left side partially blocking one lane of the federal highway between Tulum and Playa del Carmen. The accident prompted emergency services to respond and forced drivers to exercise caution in the area.
According to the driver, who was not injured in the crash, the incident occurred when another vehicle suddenly cut them off while they were traveling from Tulum toward Playa del Carmen. The driver attempted to avoid a collision but lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.
Two people were in the truck transporting metal materials and structures intended for setting up a stage for an event. They explained they had left Mérida early in the morning headed for a hotel in the Tulum area where they were scheduled to deliver the equipment.
After the accident, the truck remained stopped practically in the middle of the highway, posing a risk to drivers traveling along this section of the Riviera Maya tourist corridor. Traffic was not completely interrupted, but motorists had to slow down to avoid the accident area.
Civil protection personnel arrived at the scene to cordon off the area and prevent another incident while waiting for National Guard highway division personnel to conduct the corresponding investigation and coordinate removal of the truck.
The incident resulted only in material damage to the vehicle with no injuries reported. Authorities reiterated calls for drivers to exercise caution on Highway 307, considered one of the region’s busiest roadways, particularly in sections where unexpected maneuvers or accidents may occur.
